Irene Hernandez-Martinez, University of the Pacific (UOP), and Community Involvement Program (CIP) alumni unpacks her academic journey throughout a series of questions in this interview. Martinez was originally born in Columbia Falls, Oregon, and was raised in Stockton, Ca for the majority of her life. She became the daughter of two immigrants’ parents from Jalisco, Mexico, and is one out of five siblings. In this session, she shares her experience as a student, and her inspiration for pursuing a college education; regardless of the adversities. To emphasize, the uncertainties she endured inspire our listeners to continue grasping their dreams. Moreover, she elaborates on when her awareness of C.I.P. Martinez speaks of how she felt in having the possibility to attend U.O.P. through such an opportunistic scholarship. Demonstrating the significant effect this program possesses on many individuals. In addition, she highlights how much she appreciates C.I.P.’s commitment to the community. Throughout the ending of this scholarly session, she details her journey after graduation. More specifically regarding her work experience, and procuring her Master’s Degree. Overall, this interview is another testimony C.I.P. has in their vault as a treasured memory.
